Chris Tomlin at the O’

Hey Y’all.
Last thursday, an incredible event was held at Drury’s O’Reilly Family Event Center… The Chris Tomlin concert!
Who is Chris Tomlin, you may ask? Click here.
Now that you’ve either educated yourself on the identity of this Chris fellow, OR completely ignored the helpfulness of my link provided, we can move on to the details of the festivities of the night.
Since the concert was held right here on Drury’s campus, transportation to and fro was unnecessary. My “Girlz” and I met in front of Wallace at like 6:45 and took about a 3 minute stroll to The O. If my math is right, it took approximately no time at all to begin enjoying the night because it was so stinking close to my dorm!
SO, O’Reilly was full of people that had no idea where they were going, us included. We ended up sitting in the wrong section for a while before we figured out that our tickets were for the floor seats. No complaints there. A lovely Drury student usher took us to our new seats and we awaited the sweet music that was to come.
The concert itself was utterly fantastic! He catered to all types of musical interests. There was a DJ mixing up new dubstep right there on the spot… he had Lecrae rapping on the screens behind him… there was a guitar transition that was straight up Mumford-y… traditional hymns…. a few solo piano ballads…
It was basically an all-you-can-eat sound buffet and I was going back for 52nds.
Chris not only makes superb sounding music, but his message is equally amazing. It was a great feeling to be able to acknowledge the power of the Lord with so many people in a place that I love!
The final song was by far the most fun. The lights went into turbo drive, the cliche disco ball came down, and the even more cliche beach balls were strewn about the crowd. At one point, I was dancing too hard to realize that a huge beach ball was rocketing straight for my face. It hit me, HARD. I had to take a second to recoup. Don’t worry though, due to the sheer embarrassment of (potentially) a few thousand people seeing me get nailed in the face, it didn’t really hurt anything but my pride.
After it was all over, we shuffled around too closely with the masses of sweaty people and finally reached the exit that gifted us with an ever-needed breath of fresh air. We took the 3 minute walk back to our respective housing and resumed yet again, the duties of student life.
That concert was a perfect thursday night pick-me-up and it was even sweeter that it was held here at DU.

Have an amazing day!
