Almost like every year, I don’t have much going on for spring break–the one break that students seem to anticipate the most. In fact, I don’t think I’ve actually traveled anywhere specifically for spring break since I was in high school. It’s difficult to take a vacation when 1) you have no money, 2) you have no friends to go with, and 3) professors still assign homework and projects for you to do.
It can be kind of depressing, so my only other option is to keep myself busy.
But, I suppose I have a few ideas about what I would do if I were to plan out my ideal spring break…
1) I would go somewhere I’ve never been to before. I don’t care if it has a beach; I don’t care if it’s warm. Off the top of my head, I can think of some cities I haven’t visited, like New York City (because there’s so much to do and see) or New Orleans (because of the food and culture).
Even better, I would take a trip out of the country. I’ve never crossed U.S. borders, and I wouldn’t mind visiting nearby countries, like Mexico.
2) I would visit a place where I have family or friends. For example, I typically go to New Jersey or Iowa to see some family. I definitely want to go back to southern New Jersey at some point because it’s also close to Philadelphia, which is a pretty cool city.
3) I would apply for one of the alternative spring breaks Drury offers. I did apply once before when I was a sophomore, but sadly I was rejected, and this year, I missed the deadline. I wish I could go on one of these service trips because I’ve never had the opportunity to do so before. There’s always next year, at least.
Do you have any plans for spring break, or do you find yourself in a similar situation to me?
