A day in the life: Thursday edition

January 25, 2013 in Uncategorized

Oy, vey, today! This Thursday was (and still is) uber-busy for me despite being only the third day of the semester, but the truth is that it’s not been that much different from any other Drury day. However, all things considered, it’s been great so far! Here’s a play-by-play of a day in my life.

5:15: “TIME TO WAKE UP, MOLLY! LET’S GET OUT OF BED AND DO ALL THE THINGS!” says my body. But my alarm isn’t set to go off for another 2 hours, so I force myself back to sleep.

7:15: Now it’s time to wake up! You know what they say – the early bird gets the worm… or like, whatever. The point is, I’m up.

7:15 – 8: Breakfast time. Spongebob Squarepants time. Put on pants time. Comb my hair time. And so on.

8 – 8:15: Morning coffee run to Mudhouse. Looks like it’s a double-espresso-shot-mudturtle kind of day… I would be unstoppable if only I had a coffee IV drip.

8:15 – 8:30: Resist slamming my face repeatedly into my steering wheel as I fight morning traffic to my south side job at a design studio.

8:30 – 12: Work time, accompanied by the dregs of my coffee and Spotify and the office labradoodle, Duke.

12: Leave work and drive back across town to Drury (while belting Fiona Apple and avoiding the clearly mocking gaze of people driving next to me).

12:15 – 12:20: Check the mail. No mail. It’s fine. I’m not popular.

12:30 – 1: Meet with a Drury administration fellow about adding a course credit to meet the requirements for CORE curriculum, my new nemesis. Mark my words, I WILL GRADUATE FROM THIS PLACE. Someday.

1 – 1:30: Lunch in the CX. Not my preferred campus eatery, but chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese will suffice, because this kid is H-U-N-G-A-R-Y. So hungry she can’t spell hungry right.

1:30 – 2:50: History of Film class! Today’s first lesson was all about the first films ever, from the Lumiere brothers’ creations to the first film to feature “scantily clad” women. Said film was 1905’s A Trip to the Moon, and said scantily clad women were only wearing shorts. Oh, the early 1900’s. Fun, liberal times, they were.

Meanwhile, in a Drury film class…

3 – 4: Fight off the almost irresistible desire to take a nap and run my daily 3 miles at the gym instead. Motivation is power!

4 – 5: Shower time! Getting squeaky clean after a workout is one of my favorite parts of my day.

5 – 6:30: Grab some Chinese food with my boyfriend and pick up some groceries. Weekdays are crazy for us, but we always manage to spend time together despite going to different Springfield colleges. Also discover that Dillon’s (my local grocery bazaar of choice) does not currently carry edamame. Sad.

6:30 – 7: Answer emails. Breathe. Sit. Sitting is nice. Snack on some frozen berries I picked up at the store.

7 – 7:30: DUTY NIGHT! Write my name on boards, get residents’ packages, chat with everyone I see, and ultimately return to my room to find out that an entire side of my face has been covered with frozen berry juice for over half an hour. Way to be cool, Molly.

7:30 – 8:30: Answer more emails and plan my impending hall meeting.

8:30 – 9:30: HARK, MEMBERS OF 2NORTH! Hall meeting time. Introduce 2North’s awesome residents, old and new, to each other. Talk about policy and where stuff is in Wallace Hall. Generally try not to be lame or do anything embarrassing – thank God I noticed the berry juice beforehand.

9:30 – 10:30: Blog. Ta-da!

10:30 – 1: Who knows. Clean my room? Maybe. Read my assigned chapters for class? Books haven’t come in the mail yet. Find other ways to be productive? Not likely. Sit on my duff and watch Parks and Recreation? Now we’re talkin’.

1: Hello, RA duty phone speaking, this is Mr;ldflgerergvzzzz…

When 1 a.m. hits, this will be me.
